Employment Opportunities

Excellent employment opportunities exist at the State Correctional Institutions (SCIs) at SCI-Chester and SCI-Graterford. The Department of Corrections also has two openings for bilingual (English/Spanish) positions – one each at SCIs Greene and Somerset.

Type of Work

Employee duties include monitoring the movement and activities of inmates; making periodic and unannounced rounds, head counts, and security checks of assigned areas; observing the conduct and behavior of inmates; preparing written reports; responding to emergency situations; and communicating with staff and inmates to prevent or resolve problems. Employees may be required to carry a firearm in the performance of certain duties.

Starting Salary

$33,236/annually, effective July 1, 2012

$34,947/annually (Graterford/Chester), effective July 1, 2012
