Common Alder
Alnus serrulata
DESCRIPTION:
Excellent streamside, wetland and poorly drained soil shrub. Grows to 15 feet. Prefers full sun but will tolerate partial shade. Does well on poor infertile soils as it has ability to fix nitrogen. Used by beaver, muskrats, rabbits and hares. Makes excellent food and cover for grouse and cover for woodcock.
