Eastern Redbud

DESCRIPTION:
A small 15 to 30 foot tree with short trunk and spreading branches. Reddish-purple blossoms in early spring precede heart-shaped leaves. Forms a vase-like or irregular crown. Found along woodland edges and in under story of hardwood forests, especially where limestone outcroppings are common. Prefers rich, moist soil but not overly wet. Full sun to partial shade. Limited supply.
