Description

Keeping Pennsylvania Growing means ensuring access to nutritious food for all Pennsylvanians. With more than 1.2 million citizens who are at-risk for hunger, the Bureau of Food Distribution is a vital part of the process that helps move food from the farm to the dinner table so more people can share in Pennsylvania's bountiful harvest.

Pennsylvania is one of a small number of states that funds its own State Food Purchase Program, or SFPP. Through SFPP funding, Pennsylvania's more than 1,800 local food banks and pantries, lead agencies and soup kitchens are able to secure food products as well as additional federal funding. Thanks to the support of the Pennsylvania legislature, Pennsylvania is able to support those who are food insecure, which is an important message to citizens who may not know where their next meal is coming from.

The Bureau also manages Pennsylvania's food and funding allocations for programs such as The Emergency Food Assistance Program, Commodity Supplemental Food Program, National School Lunch Program, Summer Feeding Program, Farmers Market Nutrition Program and others. This work is done in conjunction with USDA and many local partners who make up the state's charitable food system.

Civil Rights Training:Lead staff of agencies participating in the bureau’s food assistance programs – those staff dealing directly with the public – must receive Civil Rights training on an annual basis. Compliance with this federal regulation can be satisfied by reviewing a Power Point presentation and then completing a Self-Certification form.
