NATURE OF WORK

This is technical work reviewing, researching, resolving and processing claims and claim adjustments resulting from the medical assistance program.  Work involves the review and interpretation of the medical assistance program regulations, policies and procedures and explanation of this information to service providers, recipients, medical assistance program personnel and other interested persons.  Work might include reviewing enrollment forms, provider agreements and other required documents, and developing and maintaining information contacts with appropriate agencies or organizations, such as health care providers.  Other duties might include reviewing and resolving medical assistance request problems and service provider claims.  The work requires independent judgment in carrying out the responsibilities of this job.  General guidance and direction are received from an administrative supervisor.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.

Minimum Requirements
Three years of para-technical experience which involved reviewing and responding to inquiries relating to applicable services or benefits in health care insurance programs, health care services, or medical assistance program services; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.

Clarification of Requirements

You may substitute related education for the required experience. Unrelated experience or education will not be accepted.

As of the issue date of this announcement, the Department of Public Welfare anticipates filling 4 current vacancies and 6 future vacancies in this job title.  All of these vacancies are located in Dauphin County (Harrisburg).

The test will be given as soon as possible after applications are received.  The test will be held in the Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh Civil Service offices, Monday through Friday.  To make an appointment, submit your completed application to the office where you wish to be tested.  The test will also be held on selected Saturdays at a variety of Statewide locations.  See the "Test Information" section of your application for details.

If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your test.  You must submit a new application to be retested.

If your name is on an eligible list for these jobs and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.

TEST RESULTS

Employment and promotion lists will be established.  You will be notified in writing of your test results.

This test and scoring procedure are different from previous tests for this job title.  If you have taken the test before, you may get a different score on this test.
