NATURE OF WORK

You will respond to messages received through various electronic media in the twenty-four hour operations center at the Board of Probation and Parole in Harrisburg. This involves operating two-way radios, personal computers, facsimile machines and telephone switchboards. You will receive telephone messages, relay messages and other communications, and initiate appropriate actions. Work also involves reviewing data on electronic monitoring violations as they occur and initiating appropriate actions. Employees work shifts to insure twenty-four hours/day, seven days/week operation of the center.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

You may be tested before your qualifications are reviewed. Your test results will count only if you meet all job requirements. If after reading the requirements you are not sure you qualify, contact one of the Commission's offices listed at the end of this announcement.

You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.

You must pass a background investigation.

Minimum Requirements

Three years of clerical or two-way radio operator experience, at least one of which was in a criminal justice, law enforcement, or emergency management agency;

OR

An equivalent combination of experience and training.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Possession of a clear, firm voice; and no major speech or hearing impediments which would interfere with understanding verbal communication or being understood

and

Must be able to obtain Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) certification within three months of employment.

You may substitute related education for the required experience. Unrelated experience or education will not be accepted.

The test will be given as soon as possible after applications are received. The test will be held in the Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh Civil Service offices, Monday through Friday. To make an appointment for one of these locations, submit your completed paper application to the office where you wish to be tested or apply online at http://www.scsc.state.pa.us. The test will also be held on selected Saturdays at a variety of Statewide locations. See the "Test Information" section of your application for details.

If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your test. You must submit a new application to be retested.

TEST RESULTS

Employment and promotion lists will be established. You will be notified in writing of your test results.
