NATURE OF WORK

Corrections Barber Instructor

Instructors conduct barbering schools for inmates in vocational training programs in correctional institutions and facilities. They develop curriculum, test questions and course requirements. They also instruct inmates in barbering using classroom instruction and demonstration, and supervise student inmates who provide barbering services to other inmates.

Corrections Barber Manager

Managers supervise licensed barbers in correctional institutions and facilities. They assign work and provide training related to managing barbering activities including taking inventory and ordering supplies.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.

You must pass a background investigation. After you receive a conditional offer of employment, you must undergo a medical examination.

After being hired, you must attend and complete a 4 week basic training program at the Department of Corrections' Central Training Academy in Elizabethtown, PA, which is located in Lancaster County.

Minimum Requirements

Corrections Barber Instructor - Current licensure as a Barber Teacher issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Barber Examiners.

Corrections Barber Manager - Two years of experience as a barber and possession of a license as a Barber Manager or Barber Teacher issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Barber Examiners.

TESTING

Your application will be evaluated to determine whether you possess a current license as a Barber Teacher if you are applying for Corrections Barber Instructor. If you are applying for Corrections Barber Manager, you will be evaluated for possession of a current license as a Barber Manager or Barber Teacher and 2 years of experience.

You must report information regarding your license (i.e., registration number, type of license, issuing authority, and expiration date) in the appropriate section of your application. Possession of a Cosmetologist license is not qualifying for these job titles.

If you fail to qualify for Corrections Barber Instructor, you may reapply when you acquire the required license. If you fail to qualify for Corrections Barber Manager, you may reapply when you acquire the required license and/or experience. A new application will be required.

Your score will be based on information you report on your application. You must provide complete and accurate information. Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application or result in disqualification.

TEST RESULTS

Employment and promotion lists will be established. You will be notified in writing of your test results.
