If you successfully complete the 1 year training period, you will be promoted to Environmental Engineering Specialist with an increase in salary.

NATURE OF WORK
You will participate in a formal and on-the-job training program in environmental engineering under the responsible charge of a professional engineer. You will become involved in one or more of the following areas: wastewater treatment, water supply, waste management, air quality, environmental cleanup, oil and gas management, erosion and sediment control, waterways obstructions, infrastructure investment, mine reclamation, or surface mine permitting. Initially, you will observe and assist other engineers; and perform simple, routine assignments under supervision. As competence is acquired, assignments will be increased in difficulty and will be performed with more independence.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
You will be tested before your qualifications are reviewed. Your test results will count only if you meet all job requirements. If after reading the requirements you are not sure you qualify, contact one of the Commission's offices listed at the end of this announcement.
You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.
Condition of Employment
Certain positions in this job will require a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license.
Minimum Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in the field of environmental engineering, or in any engineering field that includes or is supplemented by 9 credits in environmental engineering; OR one year of environmental engineering experience, and possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
Clarification of Requirements
If you are attempting to qualify under the first option above, you may take the test if you have completed 90 or more credit hours and expect to receive a bachelor's degree within the next 7 months. You must provide proof of your degree before you start work.
If your degree is not in environmental engineering, you must submit a copy of your college transcript (see address in “How To Apply”). Other engineering courses may be acceptable in meeting the minimum requirements.

TESTING
The test will be administered on a computer. Information about computerized testing is available online at www.scsc.state.pa.us OR in paper form at any State Civil Service Commission office.

The test will be administered in the Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh State Civil Service Commission offices, Monday through Friday.
The test will also be held approximately 10 days a month at additional test centers located in Allentown, Erie, Johnstown, Lock Haven, and Scranton. If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your test. A new application is required for a retest.
TEST RESULTS
Employment and promotion lists will be established. You will be notified in writing of your test results.
The test and scoring procedure are different from previous tests for this job code. If you have taken the test before, you may get a different score on this test.
