NATURE OF WORK

 

You will teach nursing theory, skills, and methods to employees involved in the physical, rehabilitative or habilitative care of patients/clients at mental health hospitals, state centers serving the intellectually disabled, or veterans’ homes.  You may also plan and develop training activities for nurses and other staff; and observe, evaluate and document participant progress in classroom and/or clinical settings.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

You must be able to perform the essential functions of the job.  Pennsylvania residency is currently waived for this job title.

 

If you are a final candidate for a position covered by the Older Adults Protective Service Act, you will have to obtain a report of criminal record information, at your own expense, from the Pennsylvania State Police or a statement that the State Police Central Repository contains no information relating to you.  If you are not currently a Pennsylvania resident, or if you are currently a Pennsylvania resident and have not been a resident for two years prior to the date that you received notification that you are a final candidate, you are also required to furnish a report of Federal Criminal History Record Information, at your own expense, from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

 

After you receive a conditional offer of employment you must undergo a medical examination.

 

Condition of Employment

Employees possessing non-renewable temporary practice permits must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within the one year period defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.

 

Necessary Special Requirements

Possession of a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing; or possession of a non-renewable temporary practice permit issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.

 

Minimum Requirements

Three years of professional nursing experience and a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Nursing Education or a closely related field from an accredited college or university; OR one year of professional nursing experience and a Master’s Degree in Nursing, Nursing Education or a closely related field from an accredited college or university.

You must provide your license number and expiration date of your Registered Nurse license in the “Licenses or Certificates” section of your Application for Employment/Promotion.  Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application, or result in disqualification.

 

If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your application.  A new application and application supplement are required for a retest.

 

If your name is on an eligible list for this job title and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.
