NATURE OF WORK

You will examine and approve plans, blueprints and specifications for commercial, industrial, recreational and other public use buildings to determine compliance with the Uniform Construction Code (UCC) and other applicable laws and regulations.  You will also explain and interpret building and safety laws and regulations to architects, contractors and other interested persons; and may suggest changes and modifications to plans to achieve compliance.

You must be willing to travel.  Travel expenses will be paid.

You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.

Necessary Special Requirements

Valid certification issued by the Department of Labor and Industry, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, as an Accessibility Inspector/Plans Examiner.

All positions in this job also require one of the following valid certifications issued by the Department of Labor and Industry, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania:  Building Plans Examiner, Electrical Plans Examiner, Mechanical Plans Examiner, Plumbing Plans Examiner, or Energy Plans Examiner.

Minimum Requirements

Successful completion of the UCC Building Plans Examiner Trainee program; OR three years of experience in commercial, industrial or other public use building construction, design or inspection work which involved the application of state building code laws and regulations.

Your score will be based on the number of certifications you possess among those listed in the Necessary Special Requirements section of this announcement.  Be sure to list on your application all certifications you possess along with the certificate numbers.  Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application, or result in a lower-than-deserved score or disqualification.

If you take this test, have received additional certifications and want to take the test again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your “Notice of Examination Results.”  A new application is required.

TEST RESULTS

Employment and promotion lists will be established.  You will be notified in writing of your test results.
