NATURE OF WORK

 

Occupational Therapist – You will participate in on-the-job training designed to develop technical skills and professional proficiency in the design, implementation and evaluation of occupational therapy segments of individual program plans.  Work includes receiving training to develop, monitor, evaluate and implement occupational therapy segments of a program plan; participating in directing and instructing therapeutic activity aides and other non-professional staff in group occupational therapy activities; and participating with higher level therapists in training patients/residents in the use of adaptive equipment and devices.

 

Licensed Occupational Therapist - You will plan, design and implement the delivery of occupational therapy and assistive technology services to clients and coordinate facility wide occupational therapy services with other disciplines.  Work includes conducting assessments of patients/residents functional levels, strengths and needs; writing an occupational therapy program based on the findings in the assessment; screening referrals for evaluation need and/or referral to other clinical services; writing initial evaluations, progress notes and discharge summary; supervising licensed occupational therapy assistants in the conduct of their activities.

 

Occupational Therapist Supervisor – You will plan, organize and supervise the delivery of occupational therapy services to patients/residents.  Work involves directing the design, implementation and evaluation of occupational therapy program plans; planning, developing and implementing medically, developmentally, and/or psychologically focused occupational therapy programs to determine current levels and assist patients/residents in developing basic functional skills or retain or strengthen existing skills; developing operational procedures; and interpreting policies and programs for staff.  You will also provide hands-on direct care to patients/residents by assisting with assessments, program design and implementation.

 

Chief Occupational Therapist – You will direct the total delivery of occupational therapy services within a facility.  Work includes planning, management, coordination, evaluation and integration of medically, developmentally, and/or psychologically focused occupational therapy services; developing policies and procedures for staff; coordinating the delivery of all occupational therapy services with other professional services in the facility; planning and directing occupational therapy-related training for professional and non-professional staff; planning, directing and coordinating internship programs; consulting with physicians and other professionals on the development, implementation and conduct of occupational therapy services; requisitioning, inspecting and supervising proper maintenance of equipment and materials; and preparing reports on the facility’s occupational therapy services.

You must be of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.  Pennsylvania residency is currently waived for these job titles.

 

Some of the positions in these job titles come under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.  If you are a final candidate for one of these positions, you will have to provide reports on your background from such sources as the Pennsylvania State Police and the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare.  If you are a final candidate and not a Pennsylvania resident, you must also obtain a report of Federal Criminal History Record Information from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.  If your background is unacceptable, you will be disqualified for employment in such positions.  You will receive information about these requirements and how to obtain the required reports at the time you are being considered for employment.

 

Some of the positions in these job titles come under the provisions of the Older Adults Protective Services Act.  If you are a final candidate for one of these positions, you will have to obtain a report of criminal record information from the Pennsylvania State Police or a statement that the State Police Central Repository contains no information relating to you.  If you are a final candidate and not currently a Pennsylvania resident, or if you are currently a Pennsylvania resident and a final candidate but have not been a resident for two years prior to the date that you received notification that you are a final candidate, you are also required to furnish a report of Federal Criminal History Record Information from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.  If your background is unacceptable, you will be disqualified for employment in such positions.  You will receive information about this requirement and how to obtain the required reports at the time you are being considered for employment.

 

After you receive a conditional offer of employment, you must undergo a medical examination.

 

Necessary Special Requirements

Occupational Therapist – Possession of a temporary license or license to practice occupational therapy issued by the State Board of Occupational Therapy Education and Licensure.

 

Condition of Employment

Persons holding a temporary license must attain full licensure within one year of the issuance of a temporary license.

 

Licensed Occupational Therapist, Occupational Therapist Supervisor and Chief Occupational Therapist – Possession of a license to practice occupational therapy as issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Occupational Therapy Education and Licensure.

 

Clarification for the Necessary Special Requirements (All Job Titles)

If you possess a license to practice as an Occupational Therapist, issued by another jurisdiction, you will be admitted to this examination program.  However, at the time of appointment to a position, you will have to show proof of possession of a current, valid Pennsylvania Occupational Therapist license.

 

You must report your license number, date issued, and issuing organization in the “Licenses or Certificates” section of your application.

 

Minimum Requirements

Occupational Therapist and Licensed Occupational Therapist – You must meet the “Necessary Special Requirements” listed above.

 

Occupational Therapist Supervisor – One year as a Licensed Occupational Therapist; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.

Chief Occupational Therapist – One year as an Occupational Therapist Supervisor; OR two years of experience as a professional licensed occupational therapist; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.

 

Clarification of Requirements

Occupational Therapist Supervisor and Chief Occupational Therapist – You may substitute related graduate-level education for up to one year of experience.  Unrelated experience or education will not be accepted.

TESTING

 

Your application will be evaluated to determine whether you meet the Minimum Requirements.  If you meet these requirements, you will receive a score.

 

You must provide complete and accurate information.  You must list your temporary license or license to practice occupational therapy issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Occupational Therapy Education and Licensure in the “Licenses or Certificates” section of your Application for Employment/Promotion.  Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application, or result in a lower-than-deserved score or disqualification.

 

If you take this test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your “Notice of Examination Results”.  A new application is required.

 

If your name is on an eligible list for this job title and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.

 

TEST RESULTS

 

Employment and promotion lists will be established.  You will be notified in writing of your test results.
