NATURE OF WORK

 

You will examine plans and specifications for the installation, major repair or modification of elevator equipment and other lifting devices.  You will determine compliance with applicable elevator laws, regulations and national standards; recommend modifications to plans; calculate plan approval fees; approve plans; and prepare comments and recommendations to the Industrial and Elevator Advisory Boards concerning variance requests.  You will work independently under the general supervision of the Elevator Inspection Director.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

You must be willing to travel.  Travel expenses will be paid.

 

You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.

 

Necessary Special Requirements

You must have certifications issued by the Department of Labor and Industry, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as an Elevator Inspector and Passenger Ropeway Inspector.

 

Minimum Requirements

Two years of experience as a UCC Elevator Inspector; OR four years of experience which involved the inspection, installation, repair, maintenance, or design of elevators, passenger ropeways, or other lifting devices which included reading and interpreting architectural plans and specifications.

All positions are located in Harrisburg (Dauphin County) in the Bureau of Occupational and Industrial Safety, Department of Labor and Industry.  There is currently one filled position.  The Department anticipates one vacancy over the next 12 months.

TESTING

 

Your application will be evaluated to determine whether you meet the Minimum and Necessary Special Requirements.  If you meet these requirements you will receive a score. 

 

You must provide complete and accurate information.  Be sure to list your Certification Numbers on your Application for Employment/Promotion.  Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application, or result in disqualification.

 

If you take this test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your “Notice of Examination Results”.  A new application is required.

 

TEST RESULTS

 

Employment and promotion lists will be established.  You will be notified in writing of your test results.
