NATURE OF WORK

The work at the Engineer 1 level normally includes assignments involving component parts of a system when the controlling parameters have been developed and may involve coordinating with other architectural or engineering disciplines.  The work at the Engineer 2 level is more complex with responsibility for the complete engineering project.  It involves considerable independence in developing the scope, technical details, coordinating with other architectural and engineering disciplines, and contacting other public agencies, consultants or contractors to ensure compliance with Commonwealth standards and needs.  The work at the Consultant level includes solving design and construction problems using advanced and innovative applications of engineering principles; and advising management on the advantages, disadvantages, and effects of utilizing new and emerging technology and/or changing existing engineering and material standards.  Work at this level may include exploring and incorporating green building design principles for energy conservation.
