NATURE OF WORK
You will perform professional engineering work in the design, cost estimating, construction, and inspection of a variety of mechanical systems and equipment in Commonwealth facilities. You will work in areas such as water supply and sewage systems; plumbing; heating, including steam generation; air conditioning and ventilation; refrigeration; automatic temperature controls for buildings; pumps and filtration systems; and air pollution control systems.
The work at the Engineer 1 level normally includes assignments involving component parts of a system when the controlling parameters have been developed and may involve coordinating with other architectural or engineering disciplines. The work at the Engineer 2 level is more advanced with responsibility for the complete engineering project. It involves considerable independence in developing the scope, technical details, coordinating with other architectural and engineering disciplines, and contacting other public agencies, consultants or contractors to ensure compliance with Commonwealth standards and needs. The work at the Consultant level includes solving design and construction problems using advanced and innovative applications of engineering principles; and advising management on the advantages, disadvantages, and effects of utilizing new and emerging technology and/or changing existing engineering and material standards. Work at this level may include exploring and where appropriate, incorporating green building design principles for energy conservation.

You must be of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job. Pennsylvania residency is currently waived for these job titles.
Necessary Special Requirements
For all job titles, certain positions will require possession of a valid driver’s license.
Certain Mechanical Engineer 2 positions will require a Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
For Mechanical Engineering Consultant, possession of a Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists is required for all positions.
Minimum Requirements
Mechanical Engineer 1 – Successful completion of the training program for a Mechanical Engineer Trainee; OR one year of professional mechanical engineering experience which required work on any structural mechanical system, and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering; OR one year of professional mechanical engineering experience which required work on any structural mechanical system, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
Mechanical Engineer 2 – One year as a Mechanical Engineer 1; OR two years of professional mechanical engineering experience which required work on any structural mechanical system, and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering; OR two years of professional mechanical engineering experience which required work on any structural mechanical system, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
Mechanical Engineer Consultant – Two years as a Mechanical Engineer 2; OR four years of professional mechanical engineering experience which required work on any structural mechanical system.

You must provide complete and accurate information. Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application, or result in a lower-than-deserved score or disqualification.
If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your "Notice of Examination Results." A new application and application supplement are required for a retest.
TEST RESULTS
