NATURE OF WORK

 

You will inspect public housing units and Housing and Urban Development rental assistance dwellings for compliance with Federal and Local Government public housing regulations, as well as local building codes and ordinances.  You will perform maintenance and housing evaluations; inspect heating, plumbing, and electrical systems for adequacy; and investigate complaints of unsanitary or hazardous conditions.

You must be able to climb ladders, bend, stoop and climb stairs.

 

Some jobs occasionally require overtime work.  If so, you will be given compensatory time off or paid overtime in accordance with the policies of the specific Housing Authority.

 

You must pass a background investigation.  After you receive a conditional offer of employment, you must also undergo a medical examination.

 

Minimum Requirements

 

One year of experience in building structure or maintenance inspection; OR 1 year of building trades experience which included work in the area of cost estimation; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.

 

Clarification of Requirements

 

You may substitute related education for the required experience.  Unrelated experience or education will not be accepted.

Additional opportunities may occur due to normal turnover from retirements, promotions, transfers, resignations and so forth.

There are no current positions or expected future job openings in Philadelphia or Pittsburgh.

TESTING

 

You will be rated on your experience and training.  Your score will be based on information you report on your application and application supplement.

 

You must provide complete and accurate information.  Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application, or result in a lower-than-deserved score or disqualification.

 

If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your "Notice of Examination Results."  A new application and application supplement are required for a retest.

 

If your name is on an eligible list for this job title and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.

 

TEST RESULTS

 

Employment and promotion lists will be established.  You will be notified in writing of your test results.
