NATURE OF WORK
You will be assigned to a region of the state where you perform regulatory inspections and provide grading services to food processing facilities, warehouses, distributors, retail food stores, etc., to ensure compliance with laws governing the quality, condition and grade of fruits and vegetables and the quality, sanitation and grade of eggs. Inspectors have the authority to remove commodities from sale; gather evidence; and recommend prosecution for violation of state regulations. There is considerable public contact to gain cooperation and support; to explain state and federal regulations; and to resolve complaints related to minor violations.
You will work from your home. You will be given considerable freedom in scheduling and completing your work. You will occasionally report to a regional office. A supervisor reviews your work through consultations, meetings, and written reports.
JOB REQUIREMENTS

You must be willing to travel. Travel expenses will be paid.
You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.
Condition of Employment
Certain positions may require USDA licensure to inspect and grade agricultural commodities within the first year of employment.
Necessary Special Requirement
You must have a valid Pennsylvania driver's license.
Minimum Requirements
One year of experience in the inspection and/or grading of agricultural commodities and a bachelor's degree in agronomy, agricultural science, agroecosystem science, animal science, food science, or horticulture; OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the applicant with the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.
Clarification of Requirements
You may substitute related education for the required experience or appropriate experience for the required education. Unrelated experience or education will not be accepted.

The positions are located in the Department of Agriculture regions throughout the state with headquarters in Gibsonia (Allegheny County), Altoona (Blair County), Meadville (Crawford County), Summerdale (Cumberland County), Williamsport (Lycoming County), Creamery (Montgomery County), and Tunkhannock (Wyoming County).

TESTING
You will be rated on your experience and training. Your score will be based on information you report on your application and application supplement.
You must provide complete and accurate information. Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application, or result in a lower-than-deserved score or disqualification.
If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your "Notice of Examination Results." A new application and application supplement is required for a retest.
If your name is on an eligible list for this job title and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.
TEST RESULTS
Employment and promotion lists will be established. You will be notified in writing of your test results.
