NATURE OF WORK

 

You will perform administrative and technical work directing a program of building maintenance and heating and utility plant operations at a state facility.  You will plan and organize the work, direct trades persons and other support workers, distribute personnel and material resources and participate in modifications to the physical plant.  Work is performed with a high degree of initiative and independent judgment and is reviewed by an administrative supervisor.

 

The scope of operations and responsibilities increases in difficulty and complexity as the job level increases.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

 

You will be tested before your qualifications are reviewed.  Your test results will count only if you meet all job requirements.  If after reading the requirements you are not sure you qualify, contact one of the Commission's offices listed at the end of this announcement.

 

You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.

 

For Department of Corrections Positions:

You must pass a background investigation.  After you receive a conditional offer of employment, you must undergo a medical examination.

 

After being hired, you must attend and complete a three-week basic training program at the Department of Corrections' Central Training Academy in Elizabethtown.

 

Minimum Requirements

 

Facility Maintenance Manager 1

Two years of experience as a Building Maintenance Foreman, Utility Plant Supervisor or Corrections Trade Instructor; OR 6 years of experience in the construction, maintenance or repair of buildings; or the operation, maintenance and repair of utility services equipment, including 2 years in a managerial or supervisory capacity; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.

 

Corrections Facility Maintenance Manager 1

Two years of experience as a Building Maintenance Foreman, Utility Plant Supervisor or Corrections Trade Instructor with a specialty in one of the trades of Carpentry, Electrical, Refrigeration, Plumbing, Sheet Metal, Machinist, Welding, Painting, Automotive, Electronics or Masonry; OR 6 years of experience in the construction, maintenance or repair of buildings; or the operation, maintenance and repair of utility services equipment, including 2 years in a managerial or supervisory capacity; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.

 

Facility Maintenance Manager 2 & Corrections Facility Maintenance Manager 2

One year of experience as a Facility Maintenance Manager 1 or 1 year of experience as a Corrections Facility Maintenance Manager 1; OR 2 years of experience as a Utilities Supervisor; OR 7 years of experience in the construction, maintenance or repair of buildings; or the operation, maintenance and repair of utility services equipment, including 3 years in a managerial or supervisory capacity; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.

 

Facility Maintenance Manager 3 & Corrections Facility Maintenance Manager 3

One year of experience as a Facility Maintenance Manager 2 or 1 year of experience as a Corrections Facility Maintenance Manager 2; OR 2 years of experience as a Facility Maintenance Manager 1 or 2 years of experience as a Corrections Facility Maintenance Manager 1; OR 3 years of experience as a Utilities Supervisor; OR 7 years of experience in the construction, maintenance or repair of buildings; or the operation, maintenance and repair of utility services equipment, including 4 years in a managerial or supervisory capacity; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.

 

Clarification of Requirements

You may substitute related education for the required non-supervisory, non-managerial experience on a year-for-year basis.  Unrelated experience or education will not be accepted.

TESTING

 

The written test will be administered on a computer.  Information about computerized testing is available online at www.scsc.state.pa.us or in paper form at any State Civil Service Commission Office.  You will have a maximum of 2 1/2 hours to complete the test.

The test will be held in the Harrisburg, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh Civil Service Commission Offices, Monday through Friday.

If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your test.  You must submit a new application to be retested.

 

If your name is on an eligible list for these jobs and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.
