NATURE OF WORK
This is professional psychiatric clinical nurse specialist work within a state mental hospital. You will provide advanced-skill psychiatric nursing services and function in an advisory, consultative, and educational capacity. Work involves identifying and assessing needs and problems within the hospital and developing individualized approaches to meeting these needs and solving nursing problems. Work also includes instructing nursing staff in the application of new approaches and specialized clinical techniques and conducting research activities in the development of new or improved approaches and techniques in providing patient care services.

You must be of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job. Pennsylvania residency is currently waived for this job title.
Some of the positions in this job title come under the provisions of the Older Adults Protective Services Act. If you are a final candidate for a position covered by the Older Adults Protective Service Act, you will have to obtain a report of criminal record information, at your own expense, from the Pennsylvania State Police or a statement that the State Police Central Repository contains no information relating to you. If you are not currently a Pennsylvania resident, or if you are currently a Pennsylvania resident and have not been a resident for two years prior to the date that you received notification that you are a final candidate, you are also required to furnish a report of Federal Criminal History Record Information, at your own expense, from the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Necessary Special Requirements
Possession of a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing; OR possession of a non-renewable temporary practice permit issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
Minimum Requirements
Two years of pre or post-master’s clinical experience in psychiatric/mental health nursing and a master’s degree in psychiatric/mental health nursing.
Condition of Employment
Employees possessing non-renewable temporary practice permits must obtain licensure as a Registered Nurse within the 1 year period as defined by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing.
NOTE: You must show proof of possession of a valid non-renewable temporary practice permit or licensure as a Registered Nurse at the time of appointment. If you have a temporary practice permit you will work under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. You must pass the licensure examination within the 1 year period as defined by the State Board of Nursing. If you fail the licensure examination, your temporary permit shall expire and you will be removed from your position.

TESTING

If you are found ineligible and subsequently obtain proof of your credentials, you may resubmit an application with the qualifying information at any time during the life of this announcement. A new application is required.
TEST RESULTS
Employment and promotion lists will be established. You will be notified in writing of your test results.
