NATURE OF WORK
You will perform professional mining engineering work. You will review the mining engineering aspects of permit applications, mine plans and/or mine site restoration plans; investigate subsidence damage to structures and property to determine validity of claims and method of repair; prepare or review technical reports; perform engineering calculations; prepare or review drawings; and design engineering components of mine related projects. You will also participate in the investigation of complaints of mining hazards, mining accidents and other mine emergencies; and participate in public meetings and conferences to explain applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures.

You must be of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job. Pennsylvania residency is currently waived for this job title.
Condition of Employment
Certain positions may require possession of a valid driver's license.
Minimum Requirements
Successful completion of the training program for Mining Engineering Trainee; OR
one year of professional experience in mining engineering, and a bachelor’s degree in mining engineering; OR two years of professional experience in mining engineering, and possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; OR one year of professional experience in mining engineering, and possession of a valid Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists.
Graduate study in mining engineering may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
Clarification of Requirements
If you are attempting to qualify under the second option above, and your bachelor’s degree is not in mining engineering, you must submit a copy of your college transcript (see address in “How To Apply”). Twenty-four credit hours in mining engineering, regardless of the major, are considered qualifying.

Positions may exist at Central Office in Harrisburg (Dauphin County) or at the following District Mining Offices: Coal Center (Washington County), Ebensburg (Cambria County), Greensburg (Westmoreland County), Knox (Clarion County), Philipsburg (Centre County), Pottsville (Schuylkill County) and Uniontown (Fayette County).
Lists created by this test will be used to fill future vacancies as they occur due to retirements, promotions, transfers, resignations and so forth.

TESTING
Your application will be evaluated to determine whether you meet the minimum requirements. If you meet these requirements you will receive a score. Be sure to list your experience and training on your application. Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application, or result in a lower-than-deserved score or disqualification.
If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 3 months from the date of your “Notice of Examination Results.” A new application is required for a retest.
TEST RESULTS
Employment and promotion lists will be established. You will be notified in writing of your test results.
The test and scoring procedure are different from previous tests for this job code. If you have taken the test before, you may get a different score on this test.
