NATURE OF WORK
You will work in one of the areas of transportation engineering, e.g., traffic control, materials and testing, construction and maintenance, or design. Duties may include recommending traffic signaling, speed limits or passing zones; investigating and analyzing unstable foundations or solid-rock slope failures; inspecting materials and workmanship at project sites for compliance with contract requirements and departmental standards; performing highway design studies; or preparing and/or reviewing preliminary designs.
Senior Civil Engineers work on projects within the constraints imposed by developmental engineering standards, available funding and deadlines. They may have overall project accountability. Assignments often require selection of courses of action for which well established guidelines are not available.
Senior Civil Engineer Supervisors are responsible for supervising other engineers, technicians and/or construction inspectors. Work involves supervising and performing preliminary engineering studies, location or foundation investigations, review of plans and specifications, or serving as construction engineer on large and complex projects.

You must be of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job. Pennsylvania residency is currently waived for these job titles.
Condition of Employment
Certain positions will require possession of a valid driver’s license.
Minimum Requirements
Both Job Titles: Two years of professional civil engineering experience in transportation, and a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline; OR five years of civil engineering experience in transportation, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, and an associate’s degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; OR six years of civil engineering experience in transportation, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.

You may substitute related education for the required experience or appropriate experience for the required education. Unrelated experience or education will not be accepted.

TESTING
You will be rated on your experience and training. Your score will be based on information you report on your application and application supplement.
You must provide complete and accurate information. Failure to do so may delay the processing of your application, or result in a lower-than-deserved score or disqualification.
If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your "Notice of Examination Results." A new application and application supplement are required for a retest.
If your name is on an eligible list for these job titles and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.
TEST RESULTS
Employment and promotion lists will be established. You will be notified in writing of your test results.
This test and scoring procedure are different from previous tests for this job title. If you have taken the test before, you may get a different score on this test.
