NATURE OF WORK

 

Food and Nutrition Services Advisers 1 review and evaluate federally funded child and adult care food and nutrition programs to ensure that programs and food service conform to policies, standards and regulations.  They prepare corrective action plans that describe violations of federal regulations, and work with program staff to develop remedial actions that must be taken to ensure compliance.  They assist local administrators in planning and implementing new or improved programs; and developing and conducting training.

 

Food and Nutrition Services Advisers 2 supervise and direct the work of Food and Nutrition Advisers 1.  They schedule personnel to ensure coverage for USDA mandated reviews; review corrective action plans prepared by field advisers and responses submitted from sponsors; coordinate training and technical assistance and develop training materials; conduct presentations and workshops; and prepare written reports.

You must be a Pennsylvania resident, of good moral character and able to perform the essential functions of the job.

 

Minimum Requirements

21250 – Two years of professional experience in nutrition services or school food service management and a bachelor’s degree in dietetics, nutrition services or school food service administration, or hotel and restaurant management; OR an equivalent combination of experience or training.

 

21260 – Two years experience as a Food and Nutrition Services Adviser 1; OR four years of professional experience in nutrition services or school food service management and a bachelor’s degree in dietetics, nutrition, food service administration, or hotel and restaurant management; OR an equivalent combination of experience and training.

 

Clarification of Requirements

You may substitute related education for the required experience or appropriate experience for the required education.  Unrelated experience or education will not be accepted.

All positions are in the Pennsylvania Department of Education.  Currently there are 11 filled Food and Nutrition Adviser 1 positions located in 10 districts.  There is 1 vacancy in District 4 and 1 vacancy in District 9.  There are 2 filled and 1 vacant Food and Nutrition Services Adviser 2 positions located in Harrisburg, Dauphin County.

 

Employment or promotion preference for Food and Nutrition Services Adviser 1 positions will be given to residents of the districts where the job openings occur.

 

Additional opportunities may occur due to normal turnover from retirements, promotions, transfers, resignations and so forth.

 

Food and Nutrition Services Advisers 1 reside in assigned districts and work out of their homes.

 

They may be required to work outside of the district depending on program needs.  Periodic visits to Harrisburg also are required.  Advisers are reimbursed for travel expenses in accordance with established policy.

TESTING

 

You will be rated on your experience and training.  Your score will be based on information you report on your application and application supplement.

 

If you take the test and want to take it again, you may be retested after 6 months from the date of your "Notice of Examination Results."  A new application and application supplement are required for a retest.

 

If your name is on an eligible list for these job titles and you take this test, your most recent examination result will be the only one counted.

 

TEST RESULTS

 

Employment and promotion lists will be established.  You will be notified in writing of your test results.
