The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), and many municipal governments throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania have extensive vehicle weight enforcement programs. Pennsylvania State Law Act 155 requires the use of National Type Evaluation Program (NTEP) approved portable wheel load weighers (Class IIII scales). Effective January 17, 2011, Title 75 requires these scales to be certified annually (or following any event that could affect the accuracy or following repairs or failures) by the Pennsylvania Department of General Services. The Pennsylvania Standards Laboratory maintains this wheel load weigher testing program. The tests are conducted by appointment at the Pennsylvania Standards Laboratory. For more information about the program or to schedule appointments contact the Pennsylvania Standards Laboratory.
