First responders and federal, state, and local public safety communications professionals gathered to get hands-on experience during the statewide interoperability conference on September 30 and October 1. The conference received nationwide attention: for example, this article in Radio magazine.
OA-Public Safety Radio provided key communications support for security at the G-20 Summit in Pittsburgh on September 24 and 25. PA-STARNet supported more than 20 times the normal call activity during the period, connecting personnel from all major participating state agencies as well as the FBI, Secret Service, and Allegheny County 911. In addition, this office applied new radio transmission technology to feed two simultaneous high-quality video streams to the Command Post from Pennsylvania State Police aircraft.
