School Resource Officers (SRO)

The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency provides funding to local police departments working with interested school districts, which seek to have an on-site uniformed law enforcement officer, who will serve as a resource to students and staff to prevent delinquency, deter crime and drug abuse, discourage gang activity and stop violence.

Programs follow the nationally recognized School Resource Officer model and must clearly demonstrate the potential to significantly enhance safety and security in and around schools and surrounding communities.
The officer must have competed basic training and all update/continuing education training required by the Municipal Police Officers’ Education and Training Commission (MPOETC) under MPOETC regulations and enabling legislation.
