SPECIAL EVENTS



Every year the Governor’s Residence hosts over 150 events and meetings from state dinners with foreign dignitaries, to holiday open houses. Free tours, art showcases and special community events offer the public many opportunities to visit and learn about this historic home.

Arts in the Garden
Sunday, June 8
1:00 - 4:00 PM

Join us for this fourth annual celebration of the arts, featuring dance, vocal and instrumental performances by Central Pennsylvania arts organizations. Plein air artists paint throughout the gardens and visitors have an opportunity to explore the Susquehanna Art Museum’s VanGo! Museum on Wheels.
Arts in the Garden

Participating organizations include: the Art Association of Harrisburg; BARAK, Inc.; Caitlin’s Smiles; Greater Harrisburg Chorus – Sweet Adelines International; Jump Street; PA DanceSport Ballroom & Latin Dancing; Rasika School of Dance; Susquehanna Art Museum; Susquehanna Flute Quartet; Susquehanna Folk Music Society – Rayzen Kane; and the Penn State Extension Master Gardeners of Dauphin County.

Visitors are encouraged to bring art supplies to donate in support of Caitlin’s Smiles, a Harrisburg-based non-profit organization that delivers arts and crafts kits to hospitalized children facing chronic or life threatening illnesses. New materials, such as drawing pads, coloring books, markers, Play-Doh, and beads will be collected.

Good Gardening, Great Health
Explore the gardens of the Governor’s Residence and learn about the latest gardening trends. Local experts will be on hand to discuss the health benefits of gardening, herbs, super-foods and pollinators. The Governor’s Residence vegetable garden will be featured.





Creatures of the Garden
Sunday, August 10

Learn about creatures of all shapes and sizes that inhabit gardens in Pennsylvania. Visitors will have an opportunity to observe live animal demonstrations, hear educational presentations and participate in hands-on activities.

Creatures of the Garden
Participating organizations include: the Backyard Beekeepers Association; Ned Smith Center for Nature and Art; Penn State Extension Master Gardeners of Dauphin County; Pennsylvania Game Commission; and ZooAmerica North American Wildlife Park. At 2:00 p.m., Jack Hubley, host of “A Wild Moment,” will offer an educational program titled “Critters Beyond Your Back Door.” It will feature mammals, birds of prey and snakes that are native to Central Pennsylvania.



Gallery Walk & Artist-led Canvas Painting

Gallery Walk
Celebrate art in the Capital City! Visit the Governor’s Residence during the Art Association of Harrisburg’s 27th annual Gallery Walk. Inside, tour the latest art exhibition “Traditions of Excellence: Selected Artwork by the Faculty and Alumni of the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts.”

Outside, participate in an artist-led canvas painting class led by an instructor from aMuse Uncorked. The 30 minute class will offer visitors a unique opportunity to receive step-by-step art instruction. The activity is FREE and the 8x10 canvas is yours to keep.

Classes will start at 1 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. and are first-come, first-served. Be sure to arrive early to find a seat!




All Second Sunday events are FREE, family-friendly and open to the public. Reservations are not required. Security measures will be in place. For more information, call the Office of the First Lady at 717-787-1965.
