CIMS Claims Converting to WCAIS (effective September 2013)

  • All open claims in CIMS will be converted to the new computer system (WCAIS) when it goes live in 2013.

  • All closed claims from September 2008 to September 2013 will be converted from CIMS to WCAIS. Anything closed prior to September 2008 will not be converted. (Closed cases are defined as cases where compensation (indemnity and medical) benefits have terminated

  • All suspended claims from September 2002 to September 2013 will be converted from CIMS to WCAIS. Anything suspended prior to September 2002 will not be converted. (Suspended cases are defined as cases where indemnity is not being paid but the insurer is still liable for medical.)

  • All open, closed, and suspended claims that would have contained microfiche documents may still be available as these documents have not been purged (BWC microfiched only claims-related documents between 9/1979 and 9/1998). BWC is currently converting all microfiche documents that relate to open claims into CIMS, and plans to convert into CIMS all closed and suspended claims that fall within the record retention schedule. Once this is accomplished, the microfiche cards will be destroyed and the equipment surplused.

  • BWC has not purged claims from CIMS yet, so it presently contains documents for open, closed and suspended claims from 1998 to the present. The migration process of claims from CIMS into WCAIS will include the purging of claims according to the records retention policy. (The records retention policy is to keep closed claims for four years and suspended claims for ten years.)
