Honor our Veterans
“It is out duty to continue to support those who have served us so bravely.” –Governor Corbett
This budget includes an additional $1 million for the Veterans Trust Fund (VTF). The VTF will issue grants to statewide charitable organizations that assist veterans, veterans’ service organizations and county directors of veterans’ affairs to assist veterans in need of shelter and necessities of living. The funding will also assist veterans in obtaining federal veterans benefits and pensions earned by virtue of their service.
Funding from the VTF supports the design and implementation of a veterans’ designator or Pennsylvania driver’s licenses, which will be available for veterans in calendar year 2014.
This budget continues support for the mobile outreach van to enhance the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs’ efforts to make benefits more accessible to veterans and their eligible family members, with an additional van expected to be ready for service by summer of 2014. Accredited veterans services officers utilize the van to provide information and assistance to those eligible for benefits such as service-connected disability compensation, improved pensions, death pensions, VA health care benefits, burial benefits, education benefits and vocational rehabilitation.
