Love em with a check-up program

What is Love 'em with a Check-up?
The Bureau of Family Health's Love 'em with a Check-up Program is a statewide outreach initiative encouraging pregnant women and women that might be pregnant to get medical care.

Women and families can call 1-800-986-BABY to get information and referrals to medical providers and healthcare coverage programs. The goal of this Program is to improve access to healthcare services, providers and healthcare coverage so more babies are born healthy.

Do you think you are pregnant?
There are many reasons why your period can be late:
  • Pregnancy;
  • Use of the pill or other hormone birth control methods or recently stopping birth control pills;
  • Breastfeeding;
  • Rapid weight loss;
  • Excessive exercise or endurance sports (marathon training, etc);
  • Menopause;
  • Severe stress or lifestyle change;
  • Use of certain medications; or
  • Hormone imbalance
If you think you are pregnant, it is best to talk with a medical provider immediately to discuss your concerns. Call 1-800-986-BABY today for information about free pregnancy testing.

Have you taken a home pregnancy test?
If the result is positive call 1-800-986-BABY today. All calls are free and confidential! You should also practice the following good health habits until you see your medical provider:
  • Eat a well-balanced diet;
  • Do not smoke;
  • Do not use alcohol or drugs, even over-the-counter drugs, until you have checked with your doctor;
  • Decrease your caffeine to no more than 2 cups of coffee or cola per day;
  • Do not clean a cat litter box; and
  • Avoid people that are sick.
If the result is negative, but you continue to have pregnancy symptoms, it is a good idea to see your health professional as soon as possible to confirm the results.
