Director, Bureau of Charitable OrganizationsMichael L. Patterson was appointed Director for the Bureau of Charitable Organizations in October of 2011. In this position, Mr. Patterson oversees and administers mandated management functions for regulating Registration and Compliance, Investigations and Audits within the Charitable Bureau. This position also works closely with the Attorney General’s Office, Charitable Trusts Division on enforcement procedures regarding complaints and alleged violations of charitable organizations, professional fundraising counsels, and professional solicitors who may be in violation of the law.

In addition, in February of 2012, Mr. Patterson was appointed Acting Director for the Corporations Bureau. In this position, he is responsible for the management of a bureau that oversees more than 1.5 million companies that do business in Pennsylvania. His duties also require him to supervise the centralized filing office of the Uniform Commercial Code financing statements within the Corporations Bureau.

Mr. Patterson previously served as vice president of operations for the Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Association; prior to that he was chief financial officer for the Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts. He has extensive experience in accounting and finance, building and directing non-profit organizations, strong background in managing 501(c)(3) organizations, and excellent management and leadership skills.

Mr. Patterson’s education includes a Master of Science in Health Services Administration from University of St. Francis, BSBA with a concentration in accounting from Shippensburg University, and an AA in Accounting from HACC.

Michael currently lives in Harrisburg with his wife Karen and daughter Anya.
