Anti-Fraud Compliance

The Department's Anti-fraud Compliance Division funded through the Pennsylvania Insurance Fraud Prevention Authority works to increase the detection, investigation, prosecution and prevention of insurance fraud in Pennsylvania .    

2008 Statistical Reporting Summary

During 2008 insurers reported spending $35.7 million on anti-fraud programs, as compared to $41.2 million reported spent in 2007.


The amount of fraud shown identified through anti-fraud programs was $56.8 million in 2008 down from $59.2 million reported in 2007.


Insurers reported that they investigated 18,749 suspicious claims in 2008 down from 22,054 claims investigated in 2007.


Insurers referred 1,458 cases of suspected insurance fraud to federal, state and local criminal law enforcement agencies in 2008, up from 1,444 referrals in 2007.
