How long does it take to have a registration number assigned?
Normally, you can call and get your registration number in about three days. You can also wait to receive your Certificate of Registration, but that can take about two weeks.
Do I need to send a sample of my product along with the application?
Only if you are applying for registration under the Stuffed Toy Law. No sample is required if you are registering a product under Pennsylvania's Bedding and Upholstery Law.
Where can I obtain the law labels that are required to be attached to my articles?
A sample law label will be mailed along with your Certificate of Registration. We recommend you contact a printer who specializes in law labels since some states require additional information at the bottom of the label. There are no such specifications for labels attached to stuffed toys.
I am in another state and already have a registration number for my law labels. Will Pennsylvania recognize that number?
Pennsylvania approves and recognizes the uniform registry number and will accept a registration number issued by another state for bedding and upholstery articles. The registration number shall be preceded by the name (abbreviation) of the state issuing the registration number, and (if the factory is located in a state other than the one issuing the registration number) the name (abbreviation) of the state in which the factory is located (in parentheses after the registration number). Labels on stuffed toys must display the Pennsylvania Registration Number.
What are the requirements for selling second-hand articles?
All second-hand dealers, auctioneers, renovators and rental stores must disinfect all articles of bedding and upholstered furniture using an approved method (usually a spray process) and attach a yellow law tag. The tag must state the registration number and the permit number of the person who performed the work.
Can an importer register on behalf of a foreign manufacturer?
The Department has permitted importers to hold Bedding and Upholstery Registrations on behalf of each foreign manufacturer represented. However, the Department does not permit an importer to hold a single
registration while importing from multiple foreign manufacturers.
Where can I get a copy of the Law and Regulations?
