How to Apply

To be considered for a Department of Health position, you must take and pass a Civil Service examination and be placed on a Civil Service list.  Civil Service exams and lists are maintained by the State Civil Service Commission.

  1. Review available Civil Service test announcements.
    View a summary of all test announcements at the State Civil Service Commission's web site.  The majority of test announcements for Department of Health jobs are located in the Medical and Health Services section. 
  2. Select the exam for which you want to apply.  We encourage you to apply for multiple exams.  They’re free!
  3. Use the 5-digit job code for your selected exam to submit either an online or paper application and application supplement (if necessary) to the State Civil Service Commission. View the online application tutorial for more information.

Make sure to read the detailed application instructions on the test announcement, as the online application may not be available for some exams.
