PENNSYLVANIA COUNCIL ON AGING

The Pennsylvania Council on Aging serves as a statewide forum, clearinghouse, guardian, and advocate for the rights and interests of the elderly in determining a comprehensive program of services for the elderly. The purpose of the council is to assure full participation of commonwealth seniors in developing a program of services for the aging in accordance with the Older Americans Act, as amended.

The council advises the Governor, the General Assembly, and the Department of Aging through its Secretary, regarding the planning, coordination and delivery of services provided by Pennsylvania Department of Aging and other State agencies.

Twenty one members comprise the council; 16 of which are nominated by the Governor and confirmed by the state senate. The additional five members are chairs of the five regional councils, each elected to represent his respective region on the council. The standing committees consist of the executive, administrative and policy committees.

Meetings are held bi-monthly, typically the first Wednesday of the month, and normally last from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Department of Aging offices in Harrisburg.
