Seedling For Schools Program

Trees are important to wildlife, people and the environment. Through Seedlings for Schools, students plant seedlings at home, on school grounds or in their community and explore the vital role of trees in the environment.
—TWO WAYS TO PARTICIPATE—
Seedlings for Schools is open to Pennsylvania pre-K-12 schools. This program is free of charge! Homeschoolers, please combine orders with your home school group/association.

  1. Select a program that best suits your school and students. Read about the programs by clicking on the program title (below in blue).
  2. Click on the teacher guide and student sheet (below in blue) to view educational materials.
  3. Gather your orders, when you are ready to order, click on the selected program (below in blue) -follow the directions to access the order forms.
  4. Place your order. You will receive a confirmation email within 48 hours.
  5. Trees will be delivered during the weeks of April 20 and April 27th weather permitting. Seedlings delivery cannot be guaranteed by a specific date.
Seedlings for Your Class: The Pennsylvania Game Commission provides a classroom or grade level with enough seedlings for each student to take a seedling home to plant. (The year's choices are White Spruce, Mixed Oaks, and Flowering Crabapple)

Seedlings to Develop Habitats: Primarily for middle and high school students, the Commission provides a variety of seedlings to students interested in planting seedlings on school or community grounds to improve habitat, plant along a stream, develop a tree nursery, or create an environmental area.

Seedlings are grown and shipped from the Pennsylvania Game Commission's Howard Nursery.
Seedlings For Schools is coordinated by the Pennsylvania Game Commission's Howard Nursery, Bureau of Wildlife Habitat Management and the Division of Conservation Education, Bureau of Information and Education.
